Shanna Maibaum, 31, brought in a bag of clothing in great condition to a resale store in LA, only to have them buy one thing from her. Except that promise sets up a cycle in which we expect others to value things we already devalued, and the people who actually need the cash never get it.
The relatively rich stay looking rich and the broke reluctantly donate their stuff. The problem might lie in part with our expectations. The value is in the sentimentality behind the objects, not the objects themselves. The same goes for resellers and their clothing, says Goeller. That could be your old, cheap shirt they bought. Your money. Your trash. The point of resale, then, is not thrift, but savvy. What tips and tricks have you learned? Share them with me in the comments! There are forces beyond your or their control at play: current trends, their inventory levels, the season, what they bought earlier in the day, etc.
Girrrrl I basically made a living off of buying from second hand shops and reselling to Buffalo! Totally agree that looking your best when going in helps out SO much. How you present your items to sell matters too- fold it! Repair any small hem or iron the item if it needs. Honestly, keep in mind that yes, you no longer wear the item, and other people might feel the same about the style.
If you have something worth a bunch, consider consignment. Wow, I wish I could sell my clothes to second hand stores. Great post, and great tips. Have a nice day! Hi Lisa, I would recommend giving Crossroads or Buffalo Exchange a call, or check their website, to see if they offer any mail in services. Found 8 reviews matching the search See all reviews. Management was always there to help out. The hardest thing about working for the company is staying on top of the latest trends and the fashion culture. That being said the hard work was actually fun. Buffalo Exchange is a fantastic company to work for if you enjoy fashion and expressing yourself.
